Karen Foster- 7th/8th Grade Teacher
A Little Bit About Me:
I was born and raised in Southern California, the youngest of six children. I received my Bachelor of Science in Social Work, with a minor in Music, from Whittier College in Whittier, California. I worked for a few years in Skilled Nursing Facilities before deciding to go back to school. After graduating from California State University, Long Beach with a Master’s degree in Social Work, my family and I moved to Susanville, CA. I worked with the county mental health department there for a few years. Having gone through a stressful divorce, I knew I needed to be able to spend more time at home with my daughters. I began working as a substitute teacher, so that I had the same days off as did my children. I found that I had a true affinity for teaching. I met and married my current husband, and he was very supportive of my decision to go back to school once again in order to pursue a degree in teaching. I completed the credential program with University of Phoenix, and obtained my California teaching credential. I taught at a small high school in Susanville for nine years before the Lord led my family to move to Sandpoint. My youngest child is 16. He will be a junior at Sandpoint High School this year. My middle child is living in Nebraska. My oldest child lives in Reno and is the mother of two, so I am also blessed to be grandma to two wonderful grandsons. I just wish they lived closer so I could see them more often!
