The Lord has blessed us with a peaceful and productive year. Resources have been tight, but God has been faithful in each and every situation. The general plans for next year have been mapped out and approved by the school board in a unanimous vote at last week’s meeting. Early re-enrollment numbers will be used to add details to these general plans.

Next year, our school will operate as a K3-12th grade school with an optional extended day program until 5:30pm each evening. Our elementary will look essentially as it looks this year with continuing growth in some identified areas that need refinement and definition. The K3 & K4 class will be combined with a cap of 18 students total. It will be an academically rich environment that is structured around centers and learning through play. Our high school will utilize the technology available today to provide Christ centered academic classes in a Christian social environment. Using technology as a primary resource in our high school will allow us to keep it financially sound, academically consistent, & structured in such a way to make dual-enrollment in other area programs a possibility to suit individual interest and need.

Beginning second semester this year…that would be February through June – we will be happy to open and staff an after-school homework & activity club. In listening to parents who have to juggle work schedules and student pick-up, we have become aware that this is a need for several of you. Please let us know if extended hours would be something that would be helpful for the remainder of this year. Mr. Shupp has said that he is willing to stay and serve in this area most afternoons. For those days he would be unable to stay one us would stay for that afternoon. In order to cover our costs, we would need to charge $20.00 per week (Mon.-Thurs. 3:00-5:30) & $30.00 per week (Mon.- Fri. 3:00-5:30 & 12:00-5:30). We would make sure they had a healthy snack each day as part of the service. While extended day will be part of our program next year, it will only be offered this year if there is current parent interest for the remainder of this school year.

Our enrollment for 2010-2011 will begin February 1st. For our current families, registration will be $150.00 per student until March 31st. After this date, it will revert to the new family registration fee which is $320.00 per student. Our tuition rates will not change; they will remain at $345/12 months with the discounts for multiple children and annual pre-payment also unchanged. We have added payment options of Visa & Mastercard for those who like to accumulate those air miles:)

Reminder…Please mark your calendars for our family/tech night on February 4th from 3:00-6:00. We will divide into two sessions. The first session from 3:00 to 4:30 and the second from 4:30-6:00. We will be asking you to sign up so we can have an idea of what your plans look like. If you have two children, this could allow you more time to visit both classrooms, if you have Upward practice it may make the afternoon a bit less rushed, and maybe you just want to get home before dark or not have to leave work so early. The older kids want to show off what they have been doing with Microsoft Movie maker, the younger kids have been working on a few things as well, we have a few awards to present. It will be a good time to connect with others in our SCS family.

At the tech night, we will kick-off our February Read-a-thon. It will be a fun month of reading with lots of prizes and rewards and ending with our 100th day celebration on March 2nd. Should be a fun adventure!

The second quarter will close at the end of the month. The students have been working hard to do their best! Keep working hard – one day at a time – let’s finish the first semester strong.

Many blessings,

Katrina Arbuckle
